About The Biddulph Ukulele Group (NOW MEETING AT OLD SAM'S PUB IN BIDDULPH - DETAILS BELOW)
BUG was borne out of The Biddulph Festival July 2013 where a six week workshop course for "Ukuleles for Absolute Beginners" was a resounding success with attendances averaging around 40 people per session.
These Beginner's sessions at The Biddulph Arms were so successful that many of the enthusiasts asked for the sessions to continue throughout August, and we have been meeting on a weekly basis ( every Thursday) every since.
Many of the members had never played a ukulele before but under the guidance of tutor Jim Carey they were soon introduced to a few chords, and before long were strumming along to songs from the Beginner Songbook which was provided.
The ukulele over the last few years has become a very popular instrument with clubs and sessions springing up all over the country. Initially the instrument is easy to learn and one of the great ways to get going is to play along with other people and sing along as you are playing. That's just what we have been doing since those July sessions.
Everyone is welcome no matter what standard, and the most experienced players tend to help those just starting to learn the instrument. The songs range from fifties and sixties pop-songs to folk and country songs depending on what people want to play. We now have songbooks with over one thousand songs and we are adding to this all the time.
Biddulph Ukulele Club is a non-profit-making organisation and there is no charge for admission.
